God's got a job for you....
For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love,
which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to
the saints, and do minister. Hebrews 6:10
The economy is on the mind of every thinking American. You can’t turn on the TV
without being reminded of the sorry state of affairs that we find ourselves in. The
only bright spot in all of this is the consistent drop in the price of gasoline. Praise
God for the reprieve, right?! But a lot of good lower gas is going to do if you lose
your car because you can’t pay the car note.
But, enough of that. What do Believers do in the face of the constant layoffs? How
do you cope with the fear that you won’t have a job when you get to work this
morning? There is no job security for any of us these days. Our new President has
promised us a change. And hats off to him, he has gotten off to a good start,
surrounding himself with some of the smartest, hardest working people in
Washington. But, even he has sense enough to know that this problem didn’t occur
overnight and with will not disappear in the morning. It will take time to undo what
has been done to the state of the Union. So, what do we do in the meantime?
Now would be a good time to re-evaluate your position in Christ. See, it is real easy
to sing praises when you know that the rent is taken care of and your car will be in
the driveway when you wake up. It is easy to sing the rafters off the roof when you
can pass by Neiman-Marcus, see a pair of shoes in the window, and go get them, no
questions asked. It is easy to pray until the Spirit of the Lord is bouncing off the
walls with your exuberance when you know that Monday morning will find you
seated at your desk. But, what happens now…the job that you have counted on for
so long is gone. Been there and done that. I know what it feels like to stand before
the judge during an eviction hearing, praying to God that his heart would be softened
and I be allowed to stay a little while longer. It didn’t happen, but God was still with
me. It was during that time of homelessness that I truly saw the meaning of leaning
and depending on God. I learned how NOT to place my hope in earthly possessions
cause I lost everything, TWICE. But God was still with me. Just as He is with every
Believer…it doesn't matter what state you may find yourself in right now!!!!!
You have a job. Man may have told you not to come to work today, but you still have
a job. Ask God to show you what HE needs you to do while HE is preparing a new
position for you. See, the person who doesn’t know God will not be able to wait on
the new position that God is preparing, but you can!!! Use your time off to take an
elderly person to the store or to the doctor. Use this free time to mentor a youth who
needs a godly example. Take some time and help a single mom with an errand. The
point is DO SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE ELSE!!!!
Let God use you to allow His love to shine through and I guarantee you the time that
you are off from work won’t seem so long or so hard. God will make sure that all of
your needs are met as He uses you to meet the needs of someone else. Now is not
the time to cry in your soup. Get up, you have work to do!
